Electrified boat drives: our innovative solutions for motorboats and sailing yachts

Motorboats and sailing yachts

Our complete solutions for your electric boat drives. With the electric drive system platform (EDSP), we combine electric motors, transmissions, inverters, and control units from Bosch with selected third-party components to form complete systems. The drive components are also available individually.

Electric drive components

Be it Z drives or saildrives, rigid shaft drives or outboard motors, planing or displacement hulls: our components for powertrain electrification are available as standard for the marine market and are suitable for a wide range of motorboats and sailing yachts.

Across the globe, ever-increasing environmental regulations and emission standards are reinforcing the trend towards electric shipping – and not just among shipping companies and boat manufacturers. The growing customer demand for an eco-friendlier solution is also driving the industry. With our electrification solutions for recreational motorboats and sailing yachts, we are making a significant contribution to this paradigm shift in the maritime sector. Our electric motors, inverters, transmissions, and control units are based on tried-and-tested automotive technology from Bosch.

We offer boat manufacturers, shipyards, and integrators rapidly available and cost-effective components with a high level of maturity and excellent performance figures. We are happy to advise you on the right component configuration for your application as well as in other areas such as system and software engineering.

Our Bosch components:

Our drives, which are available in the power levels 90 kW, 140 kW and 360 kW, are characterized by a very high power density and robustness. The inverters impress with their very high efficiency. The 800V inverter uses the latest silicon carbide technology. The 400V inverter is equipped with a high-performance DC/DC converter to supply the 12 V devices. The gearboxes are optimally designed for the respective electric motors and operate quietly and with minimal maintenance. Our central drive control unit is also based on solutions from large-volume production and features robust, reliable and state-of-the-art marine-compliant functionality.

Our electric drive components are already being used in volume production applications, such as the daycruiser “1” manufactured by the Swedish boat builder X Shore, which uses a combination of our SMG220 motor-generator, Invcon 3.3 inverter, and eGFZ9125 transmission. Our drive solution allows the X Shore 1, a recreational boat with a length of 6.50 m and weight of 1,700 kg, to reach speeds of up to 55 km/h.

EDSP marine drive platform

Our electric drive system platform (EDSP) provides you – as a boat manufacturer, shipyard, or system integrator – with a quick and uncomplicated means of implementing the electrification of boat drives.

Sustainability and the conservation of resources are also becoming increasingly significant in the maritime industry. In the coming years, new environmental regulations governing the use of motorboats or sailing yachts will come into force in many regions around the world. These promote the use of alternative drive concepts or prohibit internal-combustion engines altogether. The EDSP serves as a predefined complete solution for the entire powertrain of electrically powered boats and combines Bosch drives with selected third-party components to form a complete drive system. With the EDSP, you can implement the electrification of boat drives in a very quick and uncomplicated manner.

The EDSP application is primarily intended for recreational craft, but commercial applications can also be made possible at the customer's request. The marine drive platform combines Bosch powertrains with third-party components such as battery packs, thrust levers, and displays. Along with comprehensive integration support, you also receive the necessary drive software, information on component wiring and configuration, as well as all the assistance that you need to put an electrically powered boat into operation.

Our Bosch components:

The EDSP is being rolled out in 2024 and is currently in use by selected pilot customers.
