It all began with HWA AG's vision to revive a legend: the 190E 2.5-16 Evo II. The very champion with which Klaus Ludwig won his first DTM title for Mercedes-Benz in 1992. It is an icon with an untouchable character. Yet the car's driving dynamics were based on the technology of its time: a purely mechanical limited-slip differential and a first-generation ABS that lacked the sensitive control of modern systems.
The task, therefore, was to preserve the original, analog character and to propel it into the future with maximum precision using state-of-the art control technology. HWA AG turned to us for this essential tuning of the driving dynamics.
The crucial part of our work took place where driving physics is at its most authentic: on the ice.
We are at the Bosch test center in Vaitoudden, just south of the Arctic Circle. On the mirror-smooth ice, the low coefficient of friction acts as a magnifying glass, which allows any discrepancy in the vehicle's driving behavior to be analyzed with the necessary precision. Here we calibrated the digital senses of the HWA EVO. As you can see in the video, the metamorphosis is the direct result of this meticulous fine-tuning:
